Iranian-Indigenous Integration Project

In fall 2018 and winter 2019, the Iranian Women’s Organization of Ontario conducted a series of workshops with the goal of raising awareness about Indigenous peoples and issues among the Iranian community in Canada. Through presentations, discussion, music, and storytelling, these workshops bridged a connection to Indigenous cultures, history, and arts. Presenters, mostly from indigenous communities, covered a wide range of topics: Pre-colonial history of Canada, Fur Trade, Indigenous worldviews and cultures, Indigenous women and their lived realities, Indigenous storytelling and music, Residential schools and their legacies, Truth, and Reconciliation, and common myths about treaties in Canada.
